Kelsey has that “bro” in her when it comes to training, but don’t let that fool you. She is all about the booty and legs for the bikini fitness contests. This young lady has been putting in the hours and getting ready for her next show in the middle of 2016. Keeping to the basics, she never misses a leg day workout and always is looking to make her glutes poop just a little more. She may not think she can out lift a guy, but we all know some bros who she could easily out squat!
How old are you, where are you from, and do you squat ass to grass?
I am 25 from Tennessee. I try and Squat to the grass every time. But at least, try and break parallel. I struggle with my form at times so I really try and focus on that as opposed to going as heavy as I can and not hitting it the way I’m supposed to.
What areas of weight training do you train and what is your best squat?
when I’m in the gym, I only wanna do things the right way! I really only do bodybuilding. I am an NPC bikini competitor so no power lifting competitions for me. Just NPC shows. Right now I can only accomplish a 135 lb. Squat which considering I weigh 115. I’ll take it. That’s for a solid 6-8 reps. But I want to take squats to the next level. It’s all about the glutes in NPC bikini.
Where do you train? Do you have a lifting team or partner?
I’m very “bro” and old school when it comes to training and diet. Because it works! 😉 I tend to fly solo most the time with workouts. My bodybuilding team is Team Diesel. People on my team are from all walks of life. Those that are trying to just get in shape to those who have changed their lives to better themselves, and, of course, the competitors. It’s an amazing team. We train at a gym called Competitive Edge. The gym has bodybuilders and power lifters as well. So it’s an awesome atmosphere.
How did you into bodybuilding?
It’s great because you can go at your own pace. But sometimes the right partner is good too. Not only for spotting but for pushing you to do different things. I just knew a girl in one of my friends college classes a few years ago. I thought she had an amazing physique so I asked how she did it ha. And I’ve been with Team Diesel almost 2 years now.
What does a normal leg day workout look like for you?
Leg workouts vary depending on what I’m focusing on. But yesterday was hip abductors and adductors. Lunges with the smith machine. Reverse hack squats. Barbell squats. Standing Leg curls. Leg extensions. And glute cable kickbacks. I always do at least 4 sets of everything but squats I did about 7 sets. Rep ranges vary.
So what’s next for you? Any goals you have to hit? (short and long term)?
Goals are just to build legs and get stronger. Do another NPC bikini show in either July or October
When you lift heavy, when was the first time you out lifted a guy? And what do your non-lifter friends think about what you do?
Oh goodness. Don’t remember out lifting men. I don’t honestly pay attention. I notice people’s horrible form on things more than anything. Lol, I just now feel like my strength is increasing to compete with some guys ha. Well. I’ve had mixed reviews. Mostly with how/what I eat, though. Lifting is my “me” time. So while they’re watching their favorite tv shows, I’m making gains, haha plus most of my friends now are fellow competitors
What do you tell women who think lifting heavy makes you look “manly”?
Well, if it makes you look like a man then I have been doing it wrong for the past 1.5 years…because I still have not achieved that look yet…..or, at least, I like to think I haven’t 😉
Anything you would like to tell the younger lifters? and/or anything else you would like to add?
Just to always remember that you’re a work in progress. That’s the best part about working on your body is that you’re never done. You can always get better at something. So don’t be scared to set a goal and go for it.
